On Wednesday, something bizarre happened in #Ajegunle, Lagos State. A bird was flying in the sky, fell and turned into an old woman.

Eyewitnesses on Ojo Road were properly shocked at the occurrence.

Leadership newspaper reported: “A witness who only gave his name as Emeka narrated that he was sitting in front of a compound with his lover when they saw three black birds in the air flying as if they were playing and he jocularly told his lover, Kemi that two of the birds could be male, fighting over the only female one. He said barely had they finished laughing over the joke when one of the birds fell and landed on a moving pick-up van belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, while the rest flew away.

Emeka said the bird then, fell on the floor and suddenly turned into an old woman, with blood gushing out of her forehead, as she rolled on the road.”

The newspaper continues Emeka’s testimony: “…a large crowd was attracted to the scene and the woman confessed to being a witch from Ibadan and that she came for a meeting in Lagos and was going back when the incident occurred.

The source said the woman told the bewildered crowd that they missed their way which was why they were hovering in the air till daybreak, adding that she fell because of tiredness.”

The woman would definitely have been killed by the residents of the area, were it not for the traditional ruler of the Layeni Community, Bale Rafiu Olayeni.

“Our Mother is not a witch” – Children

Two men have come out to identify themselves as children of the old woman, Nigerian Eye reported today. The newspaper account reads: “They were said to have explained to policemen at the command that their mother lives with them at Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos but that apprehension set in following her disappearance.

While efforts to find her were on, the children said they were shocked to read about her alleged transformation from a bird into a human being in some national dailies yesterday.
According to Police sources, “they said they have never known their mother to be a witch and wondered why such rumor was spread about her.

“They said she left home without informing them of where she was going. They were, however, happy that the publication made it easy for them to locate her and also expressed joy that she was not lynched in the process.”

The Bale Doesn’t Believe it Either

Leadership newspaper caps the story thus: “The traditional ruler of Layeni Community, Bale Rafiu Olayemi, has labeled the story that a bird turned into a woman “unbelievable,” saying “it is not possible”. Olayemi told LEADERSHIP FRIDAY that he did not believe the story, because it can only be imagined and not realistic. Olayemi scoffed at reports of the woman’s change, adding that the woman he saw could not have been a bird. He also stated that he had to rescue her from the mob before they could lynch her.

Olayemi also disclosed that after he rescued her, he contacted the divisional police officer of Layeni Police Station, CSP Chijioke Ndu, who led a team of policemen and moved her to the station.”
