There was palpable shock when news filtered in on Wednesday morning that the headquarters of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) has been gutted by fire.

There was no ready made answer to what could have ignited the inferno, but at least there was an explanation to questions as to where it came from.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire which was said to have started around 9:20 am with thick smokes emanating from the third floor where the offices of the General Secretary, Head of Finance and Accounts are situated.

Particularly there were reports that the fire started from the office of the Chief Account officer.

The fire was eventually put out but not after it did significant damage, completely razing the offices of the General Secretary of the NFF(Musa Amadu) Account officer and the NFF president(Aminu Maigari).

Fire Service officials drafted in to put out the fire said that an electrical fault is suspected to have been the cause of the fire.

Already conspiracy theories have started propping as to what could have led to the inferno.

Some people are even alleging that the fire could have been doctored, because the mysterious fire that gutted the NFF office targeted key offices in the complex.

For the past one month,it has been from one problem to the other for the NFF; ranging from court cases to the impeachment of Aminu Maigari, the football body has witnessed a lot of drama in the past six weeks.

Some unanswered questions:

1)Two factions:

It is no secret that the there are factions within the NFF now,the board members are divided and they have all pitted sides with their allies.

Is it possible that they could have been fighting each other, you know possibly to attack one another and look for an achilles heel of their opposition.

2) Next week's elections
The NFF's general elections will take place next week in Warri, and the events leading to it has not gone down well with everybody.

Some people have voiced their dissatisfaction with the process, and others complaining that they have been disenfranchised.

There might not be a direct connection, but it cannot be totally ruled out.

3) Corruption charges
It is no secret that the NFF has not been totally truthful when it comes to the money accruing to them and how they have spent it.

Could it be that now crucial documents have been burnt, that every evidence of what was expended and how, could be possibly gone?

You know it is simple, let's say: officials come in and want to investigate for any corruption, there possibly won't be any papers to back up any claims, now that it has gone up in flames.

It could be that it was an "innocent " fire that ravaged the NFF headquarters, but like they say: "there is no smoke without fire."
