For smartphones makers, 2014 is the year of innovation and re-innovation. Leading smartphone makers such as Samsung and Apple launched flagship devices in effort to maintain dominance. While former leading smartphone producer, BlackBerry, with a dwindling market share, also unveiled new brands in attempt to win back old customers.

Several other smartphone makers such as LG, Huawei, Sony, Techno, and many others, also took advantage of the ubiquitous Android OS to launch smartphone devices that chopped off the market shares of Samsung and Apple.

Window-shopping techies like me know all the specs of these devices without owning one of them. I honestly expected battery life and processor speed to be the frontier for Smartphone innovation this year, but it looks like 2014 was the year of the screen size.

Just like 2013.

Nothing to see here.

The difference between smartphones in 2013 and 2014 is that they're getting cheaper, thanks to Injoo and Techno

May be they will improve on battery life next year... and that is if they've not substituted battery life innovation for the production of power banks.

Curved screen and waterproof smartphones will dominate next year...thats if wearable devices such as smartwatch and Google glass are not innovative enough to beat smartphones!

Smartwatches won't be a thing in Nigeria, come 2015. I expect they'll only be a step behind eyewear-tech (under the collective wearable technology header) as a range of novelty products.

And, novelty products have a small market in Nigeria, given the average purchasing power. So, to quote Tuface, no shaking.
