Metro Truck Driver Arraigned for Crushing Sleeping Conductor to Death

A 27-year-old truck driver, Samuel Matthew, was on Tuesday charged before a Surulere Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos, for allegedly causing the death of his conductor.

Matthew is facing a two-count charge of dangerous driving and manslaughter.

The prosecutor, Insp. Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the accused crushed his conductor, Rasheed Abdu, to death while driving a truck out of a company premises in Apapa.

Ekundayo said Abdu, 33, slept under the truck when the accident occurred.

The truck driver pleaded innocence of the offences.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Olajuwon, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Further hearing in the case was fixed for May 23.
