The resignation of erstwhile chairman of the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has stirred up very intense lobbying in the Party. Already, 7 persons are allegedly lined up for the position.

Sources are claiming the position has been zoned to the North-East. The 7 aspirants include Transport Minister, Senator Idris Umar; former governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu; former member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Wakili Waziri; a former aspirant during the 2012 convention and former Minister of Agriculture, Dr Shettima Mustapha; Alhaji Hassan Adamu and another former aspirant in the 2012 race, Alhaji Musa Babayo.

Former acting chairman national of the party, Dr Haliru Bello Mohammed is also a strong contender for the seat, although he is not from the North-East.

It was gathered that the aspirants had started making strategic visits to the homes of National Executive Committtee (NEC) members as well as other stakeholders, ahead of the emergence of an acting chairman at the resumed NEC meeting on Monday.

Who will succeed fill Tukur's former shoes?
