FCT commuters are still apprehensive of boarding the high capacity buses in Abuja, two weeks after the Nyanya bomb blast, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Some of the commuters, who spoke with NAN on Tuesday in Abuja, said since the bomb blast, they were scared of travelling in the buses.

Mr Obinna Ofor, a civil servant at the Federal Secretariat, said that the trauma of the blast had made him to reduce the use of the buses.

He said before the blast, the buses were affordable, reliable and comfortable for commuters to use.

Mrs Lola Akiditere, who escaped the blast, said she had developed phobia for the buses since the unfortunate incident that killed more than 70 persons.

"I can't just think of using the buses ever since the blast occurred because I witnessed everything that happened and only escaped narrowly.

"Commuters will continue to feel reluctant to enter the buses until security devices are installed in them," Akiditere said.

Mr Abdulrazak Oniyangi, Managing Director, Abuja Urban Mass Transit Company (AUMTCO), told NAN that the impact of the blast was still being felt by commuters, especially on the Nyanya axis.

Oniyangi said that commuters were afraid of entering the buses because of crowd that always gathered around them.

``But some people are still making use of them because they have no option since they are reliable, comfortable and affordable,’’ he said.

He said that the company had more than 70 buses on the route before the blast occurred, adding that they had reduced to 50.

Oniyangi said the company had deployed more buses from other routes to Nyanya to facilitate movement.

NAN recalls that the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, had promised to deploy more buses to the Nyanya-Abuja route, to address the inadequacy of vehicles being experienced by commuters.
