Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, the Acting National Secretary, the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), said on Friday that the current defections by some politicians could lead to instability in governance and loss of confidence by the citizenry in the nation’s politics.
The acting national secretary said that he was not sure if many of the defectors were aware of the party ideology they defected to.
According to him, the aim of most of the defectors ``is simply a case of power equation''.
Mohammed attributed the action of the politicians to their discontentment with their previous parties and the need for recognition.
“Many of the affected politicians also took the decision to better their chances of acquiring a platform.
“The defection is a bad development for the polity,” he said.
Mohammed, however, said that defection could make the ruling party to sit up and the administration to be more inclusive and the country would be better for it.
The acting national secretary urged politicians to put the interest of the citizenry above every other interest to promote good governance and boost national development.
