Former men's world number one tennis player,Roger Federer showed that 'there is still life in the old dog' after saving two match points to beat Gael Monfils at the US Open Grand Slam tournament.The Swiss player had to do it the hard way before he could secure passage into the semifinal of the competition.
Federer came through in a pulsating five sets thriller,rallying round from two sets down to win 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 6-2.
He will next play against Croatia's Marin Cilic,who won his quarter-final match against Tomas Berdych,beating the Czech Republic international in straight sets .
Both players will now meet in Saturday's semi-finals,with Federer hoping to make it 18 Grand Slam wins.
"I still thought the finish line was far away for Gael," said Federer on falling two sets behind.
