Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom has hammered on the need for the civil servants in the state to embrace agriculture to complement their salaries, adding that the state is in tough times.

The Governor said this during an Interdenominational Church Service to mark the 2016 Democracy Day held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral, Makurdi, the state capital.

He explained that his advice was sequel to the difficulty Government is experiencing in the regular payment of wages which is caused by the current economic situation in the country, particularly the drop in the monthly federal allocation to the state.

In Ortom's words, “I want to assure our workers that we understand their challenges. The current financial situation is not limited to Benue State. Twenty seven other states are facing the same challenge. But we are trusting in God that things will soon improve and as soon as the economy improves, the issue of delayed salaries will be a thing of the past”, he stated.

Governor Ortom however expressed optimism that his administration will overcome the current difficulties, saying the battle to salvage the state is spiritual and not physical and must be won through the power of God. He therefore urged Christians in the state to support his administration with prayers.
