Sports We Are Playing On Empty Stomach; Dolphins Players Lament

Players of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt, have called on the Rivers State government to pay the money they are being owed by the management of the club.

Some of the players of the club, who pleaded anonymous disclosed that the club has not paid their sign on fees for 2013/14 and 2014/15 season averaging over 5 million naira per player, adding that they have worked without getting their match bonuses and arrears.

Dolphins are currently hovering on the relegation waters on the log following their 2-0 loss to Enyimba at the Aba township stadium on Sunday.

"We have not been paid our sign-on fees now for 2 seasons now, and we are appealing to the government to try as much as possible to pay us our arrears till date." the players lamented

The group of players appreciated Governor Wike after being paid their accumulated salaries recently but added the governor should please come to their aid in time because the club has totally neglected the issue.

They also told us that they learnt the governor supported the Nigeria Football Federation with more than #600,000,000 when the Super Eagles defeated Niger 2-0 in Port Harcourt last Tuesday.

The aggrieved players explained that even labourer get paid for their contract, adding that they have families who are depending on them for survival.

"We are begging the Rivers State government to help us solve this issue because we are playing with empty stomach."

"For 2 years highest is #8 million for each players why some is #5 million for 2 years."

"And also help us tanks the state government for paying outstanding salaries"
