The Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC) on Friday said the council would use Stella Oduah’s achievements in aviation industry as a yardstick to measure future leaders’ performances.

The Chairman, Mr Hector Nnadi, said this in Abuja on Friday at the valedictory programme organised by the unions in the sector for Oduah.

The council also charged the Supervising Minister of Aviation, Dr Samuel Ortom, to build on the strong foundation laid by the former minister.

He said that the former minister had redefined the face of the Nigeria’s aviation industry with high standards which must be built upon.

Nnadi commended Oduah’s initiatives such as the systematic remodeling of the nation’s airports to world class standards, aviation master plan and the review of the sector’s policy.

Nnadi said that the unions were proud of her achievements and rare feat in the industry, particularly her efforts at improving human capacity development across board, among others.

``Your successors not only have a lot to learn from you but also there exists a great challenge for whoever will step into your shoes in the nearest future.

``Your ardent critics have severally acknowledged your rare feat, while most of us will use your achievements as the yardstick to measure success and hard work for future leaders in the industry.’’

Similarly, Mr Benjamin Okewu, the President, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), advised Oduah’s successors to maintain and sustain the progress recorded in the aviation sector.

Mr Isaac Balami, the President, National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) said that the achievement recorded by Oduah in two years had never been recorded in the last 30 years.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other unions present at the meeting were National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services (AUPCTRE).

In her response, Oduah said that the recorded achievements in the sector were a corrective work.

``I believe that Nigerians deserve the best and I know that my successor will do more with your support,’’ Oduah said.

NAN also reports that the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Aviation Reforms, Mrs Ann Ata, the former Permament Secretary, Mr George Orisi were present at the occasion.

Also present was Dr Anthony Anuforom, the Director General, Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).
