What Your Poo Says About You

Believe it or not, it is a good idea to check out your own feces once in a while to make sure you are healthy. The method you use to check out your own waste is up to you, but a quick observation is more than sufficient to get the information you need to determine whether or not you need to make some changes to your lifestyle, or go see a doctor immediately.

Why Does Doody Matter?

According to WebMD, your fecal matter reads like a road map to the nutrients you eat and all of your other eating habits. Your waste can also tell you if there are internal medical issues occurring that you should take care of. The best way to appreciate your poo is to know just how much it really means to your health.

Color

Fecal matter is brown because it is part of the way that the body disposes of bile after digestion. If your waste is a color other than brown, then that could indicate a problem. For example, reddish or black colored waste could indicate that you have internal bleeding, which could be a sign of cancer. If you see red or black poo after you are done using the bathroom, then get to your doctor immediately.

Green colored waste is nothing to be too concerned about unless it persists. The green color only means that you have an excess amount of green material in your diet, but everything should go back to normal if you cut back on the amount of green food you eat. If your waste is orange, then that could mean you have Celiac disease and should get to a doctor immediately. White waste means that bile is not getting through your digestive system, and it is something that should be looked at by a doctor.

The Look (Size and Formation)

There was a time when it was believed that the size and shape of human waste could be used as an indicator for health issues. But over the years, medical researchers have come to realize that the size and shape of your fecal matter is not an indication of your health status.

The only exception to this rule is diarrhea. If your waste is wet, runny and has a bad odor, then you are experiencing some sort of internal infection. You can choose to just ride it out until it passes, or you can contact your doctor for help.

The Smell Of It

One of the oldest myths about fecal matter is that it is not supposed to overwhelm a room with its odor. As with most health myths, this one is absolutely incorrect. Anyone who clears the room and doesn't allow access to the bathroom for an hour or two is in perfect health, which will certainly make a lot of men very happy to hear.

Some Tips

If you notice that your waste is coming out in small pebble shapes, then it means that you need to start eating more fiber. If you notice that your waste is coming out in large pieces but those pieces have noticeable lines on them, then you need to start drinking more water.

While the size and shape of your waste is not critically important to your overall health, your goal is to get waste that comes out in large pieces that look like they have a smooth texture. Healthy waste indicates a healthy body, and that is everyone's goal.

Fecal matter is something that people often take for granted, but it can be the tea leaves you read to predict your own health. By paying attention to your waste, you can determine if you need to make any changes to your diet, or if you need to get to a doctor right away.
