WhatsApp, which is one of the world's most popular messaging apps, has introduced new features in the past few months in order to keep up with competitors. It is now getting more private and secure.

Here are some new features launched...

TWO-STEP VERIFICATION
Using a special code to verify that you're you, this feature makes your account more secure. The app allows you to create a six-digit passcode that will be required each time your phone number is verified with the application. To enable the two-step verification feature: open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Account > Two-step verification, then tap Enable and set your code.

INCREASED MEDIA SHARING LIMIT
Previously, there was a limit of 10 videos or photos which could be shared at once. The restriction has been lifted however and users can now send a maximum of 30 videos or photos at a time to an individual or a group conversation

CONVERTING VIDEO TO GIFS
You can now convert your videos to GIFs before sharing them. When a video has been attached, tap the camcorder icon on the upper right hand corner of the video trimming page. The video will be sent as a GIF icon which can be up to 6 seconds long

REPLYING TO JUST ONE USER IN A GROUP CHAT
The Reply feature has been added which allows you respond to a particular message, both in group and individual chats. Tap and hold the message you want to apply, tap the Reply button and type your message. In a group chat, you can also tag a user in a message by typing @ followed by the user’s name.

'RAISE AND LISTEN' VOICE NOTES
Many users are still unaware of this feature. It allows users to listen to voice notes discreetly like a phone call instead of through the speaker. Once a voice note has been received, press play to listen. When you lift the phone to your ear, it will play through the receiver like a normal phone call.
