It would appear that people are taking their need for air quite literally as the iPad Air comes on sale in all the launch locations except Hawaii. The general agreement, however, is that there are lesser people queuing up for the iPad Air than there were for Apple’s tablet last year.

Doth this portend a sad year for iPad? Nay, apparently. According to Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, Apple is still going to surprise everyone with a higher sales volume on the iPad Air this year! Gene Munster told investors to calm themselves, as Apple will sell between 2.5 million and 3million iPad Air tablets over the weekend.

Well, that’s all good, but it still is a tough call for the iPad Air if it is to be compared with last year’s sales of 3million units. Last year, Apple launched two devices – the iPad and the iPad Mini, both coming about seven months after the launch of the third-generation iPad.

This time, Apple is counting on the iPad Air – alone – to work the magic.

Meanwhile, tech consumers worldwide await the release of the second-generation iPad Mini, which promises to have a Retinal Display and which also costs $100 less for its models. Apple hasn’t mentioned a release date yet, but we expect it to be later this month.
