The Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has denied claims that it plans to impeach Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
According to The Sun, the party wondered why the governor was scared of impeachment if his hands were clean. In a statement issued by Jerry Needam, Special Assistant on Media to the state Chairman of the party, Chief Felix Obuah, the PDP Described the allegation as untrue and an issue not yet contemplated by the party.
"The PDP wonders why a government that claims to have a clean hand, without even an iota of corruption, should be expressing fears of possible impeachment of its principal head, the governor. To set the records straight, the PDP emphasises that at no time had it conceived, nurtured and expressed such intention to impeach the governor, neither does it intend to attack him in whatever guise", the statement said.
The party however added that though the impeachment of the governor was presently not on its agenda, it is constitutionally right and proper to impeach any erring chief executive of a state, particularly those involved in glaring cases of corruption.
