GOVERNOR Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has said that the emergence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), presidential candidate in the 1998 general elections was aimed at compensating the Yorubas that were angry over the annulment of Chief MKO Abiola’s election.

The governor made the disclosure over the weekend while speaking to the executives of the Nigerian Guild of Editors when they paid him a courtesy call at the Government House, Dutse.

Lamido explained that “In 1998, we zoned the presidency to the South-South, because we want a Yoruba Nigerian president not a Nigerian Yoruba president and we chose Obasanjo. Even though his people did not like him but we did so for his passion for this country,” he said.
