Expectant mother have been cautioned by a gynaecologist, Dr Nathaniel Adewole, against lying down face up when in an advanced stage of their pregnancies, as this could potentially expose the unborn infants to brain problems.

The staff of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, FCT said that an expectant mother lying on her back makes the baby's weight and her uterus to press against the inferior vena cava that supplies blood to the heart, obstructing the baby's blood supply to the baby and mother's heart.

Dr. Adewole said, "And where the baby already has problem, what we call intrauterine placenta compromise, it can lead to brain problem even for the baby."
