In the wake of the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, most travellers are beginning to take extra care in their choice of countries to visit or settle. The truth is, there will be a need to travel to a foreign country at one point or the other in one's lifetime. Hence, there is the need to be sure of one's security when travelling or staying in a foreign country.
The World Economic Forum has listed the world’s most friendly countries for 2014 (the 2015 list is yet to be out). The 10 most foreigner-friendly countries in the world are compiled based on the friendliness of the citizens, how welcoming they are to visitors, the favorable economic climate, and the general welcoming attitudes to tourists and visitors. Okay, let’s go!
1. Iceland
Known for its colossal waterfalls, volcanic scenery, geothermal power, and about 3-4 hours of sunlight during winter, Iceland gets a score of 6.8 on the indexes used to rate the most friendly countries in the world.
2. New Zealand
Considering their natural alpine air, fresh seafood, Middle Earth magic, and antipodean features, New Zealand beats Australia when it comes to friendliness, even though the latter country is just across the Tasman Sea. The World Economic Forum scores it on a scale of 6.8.
3. Morocco
With a score of 6.7 on the World Economic Forum’s index, the North African country of Morocco is known for its stable politics, natural foods, and different cultures and languages. It is a thriving hub for traders and recently becoming a hotspot for Hollywood movies, with movie stars and film crews finding their way down to join thousands of tourists in the quiet African country.
4. Macedonia
When you consider the ancient ruins of Macedonia, its hilltop monasteries, jaw-dropping alpine views, and fascinating mountains, you wouldn’t be surprised that the Slavic nation came fourth with a score of 6.7 on the World Economic Forum’s index. Its locals are very friendly and open to visitors.
5. Austria
Ranking fifth and 6.7, Austria is one of the most visited countries in the world with a record 23 million visitors in 2011. It has glacial lakes, alpine scenery, architectural wonders, and a sure place to be in summer while not forgetting its festive winter holidays.
6. Senegal
Senegal is the second African country with a score of 6.7 on the index of the World Economic Forum. The white-sand beaches, lush tropical forests, glitzy nightlife, colonial French charm, and booming tourist trade makes the African country a place to be with locals without any fear for anything.
7. Portugal
With an average 13 million visitors going to Portugal every year, it is not surprising that it scored 6.6 on the index. The rolling hills of Beiras, the fresh black olives, the Douro valley port, and natural life makes Portugal the only place to stay happy.
8. Bosnia and Herzegovina
It is true that World War I started in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it has a growing stats to indicate it is one of the best place to be and one of the most friendly nation to visit with a score of 6.6 on the World Economic Forum. With its unique architecture, stunning landscape, picturesque mountain villages, and east-west fusion of cultural values, it is no surprise that this country is the eight friendliest country in the world.
9. Ireland
With an index of 6.6 for the ninth friendliest country in the world, Ireland is well known for its friendly locals and warm hospitality. Don’t forget to have a bottle of Guinness when you visit Ireland because it is their national drink, and be sure to check out the Blarney Stone outside of Cork, you can also find time for the nightlife of Dublin.
