Politics Yobe Sets Date for Local Government Elections

The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission on Monday fixed Dec. 28 for the conduct of local government election in the state.

The election was earlier scheduled to hold in June but was suspended indefinitely due to security challenges.

The Commission’s chairman Alhaji Muhammad Jauro, released the election timetable during a stakeholders' forum in Damaturu.

He said that nomination forms would be sold to prospective candidates between Oct. 4 and Oct. 14 and that submission of the forms will be between Oct 15 and Oct. 28.

Jauro said that the candidates’ screening would commence on Oct. 30 and end on Nov. 5, while disqualified candidates would be substituted between Dec. 7 and Dec. 12.

He said that election materials and personnel would be deployed to all the local government areas on Dec. 27.

According to The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) seven political parties attended the stakeholders’ meeting including representatives for the All Progressive Congress(APC), the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conscience Party (NCP).

They all indicated interest to participate in the election.

Alhaji Rufai Sanusi, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe, said told newsmen that the security situation in the state had improved, adding that it was conducive for the council polls.
