Residents of Ibadan were on Tuesday thrown into a state of shock as police intervention in an Oodua People Congress, OPC clash went awry.

Reports say two factions of the congress were fighting at Amuloko, Ona Ara LGA of the state, with one person murdered before the police arrived.

Their intervention however exacerbated the situation and about 10 people were killed during the fracas, a policeman included.

Motorists and shop owners scampered from the area. Policemen placed themselves at strategic points and created checkpoints, asking any motorist they see and their passengers if they were a traditionalist.

"Se alawo niyin (are you a traditionalist)?" they'd quipped.

If the answer wasn't convincing, they would bundle the person into their vehicle. Sometimes they didn't even ask questions, especially if the citizen looked rough or had a rough appearance.
