The Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Bello Adoke, has directed the acting Governor of Taraba, Alhaji Garba Umar, to immediately hand over power to Abubakar Danladi in order to prevent a vacuum.

Adoke said this in a statement signed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mr Abdullahi Yola, made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

He said the directive became necessary following the nullification of the impeachment of the former Deputy Governor of Taraba, Abubakar Danladi, by the Supreme Court on November 21.

He said "pursuant to the Supreme Court judgment, the honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Mohammed Adoke, hereby directs the Taraba acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar to immediately hand over.

"Garba should hand over the reins of governance to the Abubakar Danladi to ensure smooth transition and to prevent a vacuum in governance in the state. It will also guarantee the maintenance of constitutional order.’’

Adoke also called on the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, to provide adequate security in the state in order to prevent any break down of law and order during the transition period.

Danladi was impeached by Taraba legislators on October 4, 2012 and replaced by Umar, who became acting governor, following Gov. Danbaba Suntai’s involvement in plane crash.
