The Bayelsa State Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday began a pre-trial hearing in the petition filed by Chief Timipre Sylva against the declaration of Mr. Ben Murray Bruce as senator-elect.

THIS DAY reports that Sylva, a former Governor of Bayelsa and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last National Assembly election for Bayelsa East senatorial district had approached the tribunal to declare the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bruce not qualified to contest the April 8 National Assembly election due to his dual citizenship and the refusal to relinquish such before the election. Sylva also wants the tribunal to declare him valid winner of the National Assembly election.

Sylva is represented by Abang Odok Ogar while Senator Murray Bruce is represented by Chief Duro Adeleye. The tribunal is headed by Justice C. A. Ononoeze Madu.
