Pandemonium broke out in Lekki Phase one this morning after motorcycle riders and thugs clashed in the area. Although it is unclear the cause of the crisis, some residents say it was precipitated by the chairman of Eti-Osa LGA's engaging the services of touts to confiscate any motorcycles found in the area.
It will be recalled that motorcycles are banned in Lagos state.
As the story goes, the touts beat up one of the Okada men after he refused to turn in his motorcycle, and this resulted in outrage on the part of other motorcyclists. This escalated into a fight between the okada men, bus drivers and the touts.
The police was summoned int the furor to stop the riot from escalating and the gate leading into the estate was promptly shut down.
