It was a good Friday night for Team Nigeria at the 2014 Commonwealth Games after qualifying for five finals in their events at Hampden park.

The relay teams were magnificent and showed that they have good prospects of winning a medal in their races.

Without Blessing Okagbare, the Nigerian quartet of: Lawretta Uzoh,Gloria Asumnu,Patience George and Dominique Duncan had no difficulty whatsoever in winning Heat one of the women's 4x100m relay event with a time of 44.13seconds to make the finals on Saturday.

In the men's category Ogho-Oghene Egwero, Monzavous Edwards, Obinna Metu and Mark Jelks equally gave a good account of themselves in their own 4x100m race, finishing in second position behind a Jamaican team that had world record holder,Usain Bolt running for them.

It was the same tale of good fortune in the 4x400m relay race for Team Nigeria, both the men and the women's team made their respective finals.

Funke Oladoye, Omolara Omotosho, Regina George an Ada Benjamin made the final with a time of in 3:28.28,finishing in second position in their race.

The men followed suit,Salihu Isah, Robert Simmons, Noah Akwu & Orukpe Erayokan initially finished in third position, but were upgraded to second after Kenya was disqualified.

In the Triple Jump event, two Nigerians made the finals,Tosin Oke finished first with a 16.75m leap and Olu Olamigoke place 5th with a 16.46m leap as well.

Tosin is the defending champion of the Triple Jump event and would be hoping to replicate his achievement at the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
