A witness, Mr Aderemi Akinlade has been turned down by the Legislative Election Petitions Tribunal for Ekiti State sitting in Ado-Ekiti.

The Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice A. Erahor, turned down the request at the resumed hearing of a petition challenging the election of the Ekiti Central Senator Fatimah Raji-Rasaki.

Justice Erahor in a ruling said the witness was summoned to tender only documents and therefore, he cannot be put on oath in the witness box to give evidence.

Counsel to the petitioners (APC and its candidate, Mr Gbenga Olofin), Mr Yemi George, had told the tribunal he wanted to put the witness on oath and lead him in evidence.

Mr Jude Ogodi, counsel to Senator Raji-Rasaki opposed the position of the petitioner’s lawyer arguing that the witness could only be compelled to attend the judicial proceeding.

The tribunal adjourned further hearing in the petition till June 29th.
