Sports EPL: Man City beaten 2-1 by Liverpool, Arsenal move up to third

Manchester City's Premier League title hopes suffered a big blow after they were defeated 2-1 to Liverpool on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers' team thrived with their resurgence in form, beating the Premier League defending champions and moving up to fifth in the table.

Liverpool played a good uniform football, being compact and tight in the areas they needed to and limited City to openings for a goal.

Jordan Henderson who covered every blade of grass, put in a man-of-the-match performance for his team, scoring the opener for them.

Henderson's curling effort put the Reds ahead in the 11th minute, making their good start count with that goal.

However City equalized through Edin Dzeko, who finished off a good move that came from a pass Sergio Aguero slipped in to him.

But the moment of the game came in the second half when Phillipe Coutinho scored a spectacular effort to seal the winner.

The Brazilian bent his body and curled in a shot that Joe Hart couldn't have done anything to stop.

The defeat leaves City still five points off Chelsea who have a game to play, and more pressure will be cranked up on Manuel Pellegrini whose team is faltering.

Meanwhile, in the other game of the day Arsenal moved up to third on the table with victory over Everton.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky gave Arsene Wenger something to cheer about in their 2-0 victory at the Emirates.

At some point in the game, it was boring to watch, with both teams looking a yard off pace.

Everton might look back and worry at the missed opportunities Romelu Lukaku had in the game, which if he had converted would have changed the outcome of the game.

But Wenger would take the victory, especially in a week that they were humiliated at home to Monaco in the Champions League.
