Ayo Fayose, gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the forthcoming June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State on Thursday led members of the PDP in Ekiti on a peaceful protest against the killings and bombing of innocent Nigerians in Jos, Plateau State and other parts of the country.
According to THIS DAY, the protesters which included former deputy governor, Biodun Olujimi, were all dressed in black vests and trekked through the city.
Speaking during the protest, Fayose said, "The reason for the protest is to identify with the victims of the Jos bomb blasts, which for reasons within good conscience and love for your fellow human beings, we have to suspend our campaign for today and we chose to identify with them by this walk and to appeal to whatever they call themselves in the name of politics, that they should stop letting the blood of innocent Nigerians.
"It is not about the rally because when you get to your office either you want to be president or governor, you have to be governor over a people and if you have allowed may be because of political reasons you have allowed these people to die for no just cause. The innocent souls that are being driven out of this world would be crying for justice.
"We identify with their families, we therefore suspend our campaigns because of them. We believe in this country and in the ability of the president to move this country forward. We call on all those who are distracting the president and his team for political gains to desist from such because of these innocent people.
"They should remember that there is time for everything. There must be a president at a given time; anybody who feels he has an axe to grind with Jonathan should wait for 2015. You can only take him out of office by vote, not by violence and until that time, we should give him the necessary support and encouragement for him to move this nation forward.
"We are saying unequivocally that the opposition should look for power in a descent manner and not through any ungodly manner", Fayose added.
