Residents of Osin-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government of Ekiti State were stunned last week when a goat gave birth to a kid with two heads.
Dam as the goat is popularly called belongs to an octogenarian who was simply identified as Mrs. Ola.
Nigerian Bulletin learnt that the goat had gone to labour in the early hours of Thursday but was unable to deliver 24 hours after.
This necessitated the services of veterinary doctors who was able to deliver her of the ‘troubling’ foetus after two hours.
However, they were taken by surprise when the kid finally appear with two heads, each having its separate sense organs.
Residents who spoke under condition of anonymity ascribe the incident to the handiwork of evil doers.
One of them said: “It is not ordinary. God doesn’t make mistakes. It is the handiwork of evil-doers, testing their evil powers through this channel. Strange things are happening these days and I think the world is coming to an end.”
However, Dr. Shuaib Abdulrasheed who led the team of vets explained that though he hasn’t attended to such incident before, it is not a new thing since issues like that happens in humans in the form of Siamese twins and many other congenital abnormalities.
Explaining further, he said “the possibility is that during fertilization (union of the male sperm and female ovum forming a zygote), the zygote was supposed to completely split to give rise to two separate fetuses. Incomplete splitting of the zygote must have resulted in this and instead of two distinct fetuses, here we are with a goat with two heads.”
It was also gathered that the goat and its procreation are alive and safe.
