Sports I left Arsenal because I wanted to win trophies - Sagna

Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has claimed that he left the club in order to win trophies.

Sagna debunked claims that he joined Manchester City because they offered him more money, but rather said that it was the allure of winning laurels made him depart the Emirates.

The 31-year old spent seven years at Arsenal, and only have the FA Cup title to show for it during his period there.

And the Frenchman admitted that he grew frustrated at the club after they were effectively ruled out of competitions even before the season ended.

"At Arsenal we lost our way every season in March or April," Sagna told The Sun.

"We would lose our grip on titles with the squad decimated by injuries. What was missing was trophies.

"Talks dragged on for a year and a half. Arsenal fans said I went to City for the money. But my contract was unchanged for six years."
