Nigeria - A suicide bomber yesterday blew herself up near a Kano mosque in an apparent suicide attack attempt, Reuters report.
According to Magaji Majiya, the spokesperson for the Kano Police Command, the teenage bomber detonated the explosive at 9:30 p.m Monday after she was prevented from accessing the Umar Bin Khatab mosque along Zaria Road.
Premium Times says the incident happened just as faithful were dispersing after observing the late night (Tarawih) prayer, witnesses said.
“She was trying to cross over to the mosque, but she was stopped,” Mr. Majiya said. “She immediately detonated the bomb and died immediately.”
Most of the casualties of the bomb blast were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Hospital.
The suicide bomber is the only person confirmed dead at this moment.
