Sports Keshi should walk away - NFF

In an apparent move to remove Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles coach, the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) have urged him to walk away from his position.

There has been an uncertainty over Keshi's position as Super Eagles coach after he failed to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

He was sacked by the NFF last month after the game against Sudan, but he was brought back on the insistence of President Goodluck Jonathan, which has now hamstrung the NFF on laying him off.

And now the football federation wants Keshi to do the honourable thing and resign from managing the Super Eagles.

"Walking away honourably would be the smartest thing for Stephen Keshi," an official of the Super Eagles told BBC Sport.

"It's pointless to hang around when you've failed, have been completely rejected by the NFF and are unwanted by disappointed football fans."

And the official further added that Keshi does not even have a contract with the NFF.

"He does not have any contractual obligations with the federation; remember the board also offered to sponsor him and his assistants to managerial courses with good intention.

"He will probably get a job elsewhere before January but the country will not get the opportunity to play at the next Nations Cup."
