The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has advised the 16 supposedly governorship aspirants on its platform to make themselves popular by going to the grassroots and their respective wards and seek the support of the people, rather than wasting their time and resources, scheming for the disqualification of the former Minister of State for Education, Barr Nyesom Wike.

The 16 aspirants in question include Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Lancelot Anyaya, Sampson Ngeregba, Nimi Walson-Jack, Lee Maeba, Abie Bob-Hart, Gabriel Pidomson,Silva Opusonji, Benard Mikko, Pawwariso Horsfall, Dennis Ojuka, Tonye Princewill, Nwakwo Sunday, Don Baridam and Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja

The PDP said it is disturbed by the unwarranted noise and counterproductive activities, including damaging media publications by the so-called 16 governorship aspirants and leaders of the Rivers Mainstream Coalition, asking for the disqualification of a particular governorship aspirant, and leader of the Party in the State, Barr Nyesom Wike.

"The Party is of the view that rather than expending their energies and huge finances in raising dust and causing division in the Party, and also seeking ways of thwarting the expected success of the Party in the various elections in 2015, the aspirants should divorce their selfish, wrongly coordinated and unpopular aspirations into building the Party in the State and reclaiming the lost mandate, a process we believe has been initiated and championed by the former Minister", a statement issued by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser, on Media to State PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah, said.

"It is also important we appeal to the governorship aspirants and other petitioners, regarding the just conducted ward congresses of the Party, which success cannot be denied, as it was most peaceful, fair and massively participated in by Rivers people, to heed the decision of the Ward Congress Appeal Panel which has been duly communicated to them. We believe that if they are truly loyal and committed members of our great party, they should respect the decision of top authorities and structures of the Party, with no exception to issues relating to the Party Congresses".

"We wonder why those who profess to be stakeholders of the Party will team up and engage in calumnious activities against the Party and its leaders in the State. Or do they want to be chieftains of a failed party rather than a successful one? It is unarguably true that heeding the yearnings of those seeking the disqualification of Barr, Nyesom Wike from contesting the governorship election will bring doom to the Party as they have proved that they do not have the capacity to deliver the Party in the State for Mr. President. Otherwise, rather than waiting to be adopted and anointed, they would have first sought the mandate of the people who are the electorate and become popular at home before hoping on anybody’s adoption"

"We again remind the aspirants, some of who have proved to be moles of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and agents of governor Amaechi, who the Party gathered paid for some of their nomination forms, that PDP is a Democratic Party which believes in the supremacy of the people. The Party will not deviate therefore, from forming a government of the people, by the people and for the people, and can only achieve this by recognizing the fundamental rights of every Nigerian, including Barr. Wike, and anyone who aspires for elective position on its platform".

"The Party also allays fears over the just concluded ward congresses in the State, reiterating that the ward congresses held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, were successful and peaceful. The Exercise has come and gone for the good and success of the Party. It will not be cancelled or repeated."

"We wish to emphasize that the PDP would ensure that all processes leading to the election into all contestable positions in the party are free, fair and just. We further wish to warn that all energies should be geared towards winning the 2015 general elections, and that no one should be distracted from making or contributing to such efforts", the party said.
