Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has admitted that they took South Africa for granted which ended up costing them a place at the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
Nigeria could only manage a 2-2 draw against the Bafana Bafana at the Uyo stadium, not being able to secure a victory that would have guaranteed qualification.
Keshi couldn't really explain why they failed to beat South Africa, but said that it was their complacency that cost them.
“Maybe we took South Africa for granted and we paid dearly for this,” Keshi said after the game.
Nigeria will now not be able to successfully defend their Nations Cup title which they won last year in South Africa.
