The impeachment panel which was set up to probe embattled Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has dismissed all charges leveled against the APC governor; PREMIUM TIMES reported.
The panel dismissed THE charges after listening to the counsel to the State Assembly on Tuesday morning. Nasarawa lawmakers had refused to show up at the hearing and had sent legal counsels instead.
The lawmakers' legal team was led by Ocha Ulegede. Other members of the team included John Mathew, P. A. Daffi, Steven Idikwu, Ache Obande and Abraham Aruta.
On arrival, the legal team had submitted a protest letter written by the lawmakers. In the letter, the lawmakers argued that some members of the panel were also members of a political party and that their appointments negated the provision of Section 188 in the composition of the panel. They also wrote that the provision did not give the Chief Judge absolute power to appoint members of the panel.
After listening to the legal team, the impeachment panel had embarked on a brief recess. On resumption, all charges leveled against Al-Makura were dismissed.
