Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has revealed that he is not a happy man as his state, Nasarawa State is yet to pay full salaries and emoluments of teachers due to shortfall in revenue allocation.
Speaking while meeting with Governor Al-Makura stated this while meeting with Auditors of Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs),
He said: “Am saying this because I am really concerned about the plight of teachers. If everyone will fail to get his complete salaries it should not be teachers because they are discharging two responsibilities that no worker is saddled with.
“Apart from doing their statutory work as teachers, they are chaperons, they are caregivers and tender to our children,” he said.
He however indicted the auditors over their inability to checkmate corruption, which has crippled the local government administration in the state even as he mandated them to submit reports of all financial dealings in their respective education authorities to his office today, Monday November 28, 2016.
Despite owing salaries, the Governor had in October slashed workers’ salaries by 50 per cent.
