Team Nigeria has won its first medal at the ongoing 2014 Commonwealth Games,winning a bronze medal in the Weightlifting event.Nigerian lifter Nkechi Opara won the bronze medal in the Women's 48kg category to set the tone for Nigeria at the event.
Weightlifting is a strong sport for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games,where they have stood high as one of the best in the world.
Nigeria will be hoping to match its record at the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where they won 14 medals: 5gold,4silver and 5bronze medals,finishing tops in the sport.
More medals are expected from other Nigerian lifters when they take to the stage for their own events.
