Sports Osaze Odemwingie likely to be out for the rest of the season

Nigerian international Osaze Odemwingie could be out for a long time with an injury on a suspicion that he has torn his cruciate knee ligament.

Odemwingie was stretchered off during his Stoke City's 1-0 away victory over the weekend against Premier League champions,Manchester City.

The 33-year old came on as a second half substitute in the game,lasting only twenty minutes,after he tried to control the ball with his right leg but ended up landing awkwardly.

Fears about the extent of Odemwingie's injury was confirmed after Stoke City made a deadline day transfer signing of winger Oussama Assaidi on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool.

"We are still assessing Peter's injury,it is important that we get in somebody.... someone that we know," Stoke City manager Mark Hughes said on Skysports.

Also Stoke chairman Coates confirmed that Assaidi was bought on the instance of the manager,Hughes: "We didn't expect to be doing anything but Odemwingie got injured and Hughes wanted to fill that position."
