Naomi Mutah, a woman leading the protest for the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, over the abduction of more than 200 girls in #Nigeria, has been arrested and detained on the orders of President Jonathan’s wife, activists say.
Mutah was present in a meeting called by the First Lady #PatienceJonathan and was afterwards taken to a police station.
The activists reported that Dame Patience felt insulted that the mothers of the abducted girls had sent Ms Nyadar to the meeting.
Mrs. Patience Jonathan is a politically powerful figure according to analysts.
Ms Mutah, representing the Chibok community where the girls were abducted from more than two weeks ago, organized a protest in Abuja last week.
The protesters, and indeed many Nigerians, believe that the government has not done nearly enough to find the missing girls who are believed to have been kidnapped by the insurgents Boko Haram.
Boko Haram, however, is yet to comment on the accusation.
Another community leader, Pogo Bitrus, another Chibok community leader, has told the BBC that he had been to the Asokoro police station where Ms Mutah is reported to have been taken but couldn’t find written record of her being there.
In his words, the detention is “unfortunate” and “insensitive.”
He hopes Mrs. Jonathan would soon “realize her mistake.”
