The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation has advised All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Muhammad Buhari, to apologise to Nigerians for earlier claiming that his certificate was with military authorities.

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Director, Media and Publicity of the organisation, gave the advice at a news briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.

Buhari had, at a press briefing in Kano earlier on Wednesday said that he was surprised that the records of his secondary school education which he thought were with the military were not there.

His reaction was sequel to a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja by the Nigerian Army’s Director of Public Relations, Brig- Gen. Olajide Olaleye, where he said that Buhari’s secondary school certificate was not in the custody of army authorities.

Fani-Kayode said that the implication of Buhari's action was nothing but perjury which was a grave criminal offence under the Constitution.

''We urge Buhari and his party to do the right thing and tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians and to throw in the towel and report to the nearest police station for interrogation and prosecution,’’ he said.

He added that anything less than that would be an insult to the collective intelligence and integrity of the Nigerian people.

He also urged the Nigerian Armed Forces to consider the possibility of stripping Buhari of his rank and privileges, ''given the fact that he was never qualified to join the Nigerian army as a commissioned officer in the first place''.

According to him, he never had the prerequisite qualification, which was a secondary school certificate, to join the military.

''Given this, at best, Buhari should never have been anything more than a non-commissioned officer,’’ Fani-Kayode stressed.
