The Katsina State Government, on Wednesday said it was targeting 2.5 million children during the next round of polio immunization commencing on April 12.

The Chairman, State Task Force Committee on Polio Eradication, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari stated this in Katsina at a meeting with stakeholders on preparations for the exercise.

Faskari, who is also the state’s Deputy Governor, said that government had taken some steps to ensure the success of the exercise.

According to him, some of the steps taken include the training of personnel and sponsorship of enlightenement programmes in the media.

Faskari noted that the state had not recorded any case of polio virus in the last 16 months, describing the development as significant in the fight against the disease.

The deputy governor said the number of rejection of the virus had drastically reduced due to the combined efforts of religious and traditional leaders who enlightened parents on the dangers associated with the trend. He urged parents to continue to present their children below five years to the team of vaccinators to administer the oral polio vaccine as it was safe and used worldwide.
