Politics President Goodluck Jonathan finally visits Maiduguri

President Goodluck Jonathan today finally visited Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Nigeria.

In what appeared to be a surprise visit in the troubled North-Eastern Nigeria, president Jonathan this afternoon touched down in Maiduguri.

Seen as the bedrock of the Boko Haram crisis over the years, insurgents have unleashed mayhem on Nigerian citizens, killing lives and destroying properties.

The Governor of the state, Kashim Shettima was said to have been at the airport to receive the president.

In the president's entourage were: the Chief of Defense staff, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh and the National Security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, although they arrived the airport in a separate aircraft.

With today being the remembrance of the Armed Forces Day, the essence of the president's visit can't be ascertained now.

Whether it was to show solidarity with members of the Nigerian Army fighting the war with Boko Haram, or he is in the state on another premise altogether.
