Agbonavbare passed away on Tuesday in an American hospital after losing his battle with cancer.

He was on Thursday buried in Spain with Rayo Vallecano president, his children and other notable figures including former Nigerian internationals and his teammates all there to pay their last tribute.

Rayo after their board meeting on Wednesday decided to take the steps to honour him, considering his service to the club from 1990 to 1996 that he was there.

“The Board of Directors of the Club has decided unanimously to keep alive the memory of Wilfred and therefore will call the Gate 1 Vallecas Stadium, Gate Wilfred Agbonavbare.”

“The countless signs of affection that have been coming to club on a sad day for everyone” the club said on their website.
