The veteran Izon musician, Robert Ebizimo, is dead.
He died today in an accident which occurred along the Warri/Patani road in Delta state. His driver as also killed in the accident.
Robert helped pioneer the Owigiri genre of music along with IK Belemu in the 1970’s. Owigiri is a highlife offshoot, and Robert Ebizimo is one of its notable promoters.
Earlier this year, Robert lost a limb to diabetes and had only just recently returned from an Indian hospital.
Nigeriantimes.ng reports that he was planning a thanksgiving church service for the weekend before he died.
