Nigeria's sports minister Tamuno Danagogo has insisted that the elections of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) must go ahead as planned.

There were reports that the NFF wanted to postpone the elections after all the problems that have engulfed the football federation.

The headquarters of the NFF was this week razed by fire, drawing up speculation that the election will be shifted.

However, chairman of the NFF Electoral Committee, Anoni Bambo noted that the elections would go on as scheduled on August 26.

The NFF on their part insisted that they will not hold any elections next week, saying that the congress will decide whether to shift the elections or not.

Secretary-General of the NFF, Musa Amadu said:“the statement must have been made in error. As far as the NFF is concerned, there will be no elections at the General Assembly of Tuesday, 26th August. There is a proposal that we are taking to the General Assembly (the supreme body of Nigeria football) for consideration and approval, with regards to the elections.

“It is for the NFF and the General Assembly to propose the date for elections, not that of the Electoral Committee, which was put in place by the General Assembly,” Amadu noted.

But the Sport minister in a statement said that he is already looking forward to working with the board that would be inaugurated next week, calling on the NFF to honour the FIFA letter where it was stated that the elections must hold on August 26.

“The Honourable Minister is looking forward to a cordial and prosperous working relationship with the board that will be inaugurated after the elections of 26 August 2014, in Abuja to take Football in Nigeria to greater heights” the statement read.
