Sports Steven Gerrard set to leave Liverpool

Reports have emerged that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will leave the club at the end of the season.

Gerrard will leave Liverpool at the end of this current season when his contract expires, bringing to an end what has been an illustrious career.

His future at the start of the season has been in doubt, with his continued relevance in Brendan Rodgers' team forming the basis for discussion at the start of the campaign.

Although Rodgers initially expressed hopes that Gerrard would sign a new contract, the 34-year has now decided to call it quits from his boyhood club.

It is believed that Gerrard will be heading to the United States of America to play in Major League Soccer(MLS).

His former Liverpool and England team-mate Jamie Carragher tweeted: "Sad day for Liverpool and English football with the Gerrard news."

"I think it's the right decision, all things considered," Carragher further added.

So far, Gerrard has made 695 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 180 goals in the 16 years that he has been at the club.

The only blot in his copybook will be not having won the English Premier League title .
