Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Josiah Kente, has resigned his position on Monday, and a new speaker has been appointed in his place.

Mark Useni was elected by the house as his replacement.

Mr. Kente has said that his decision to resign is in the interest of pace in the state. He was elected speaker in November 2013, following the death of Haruna Tsokwa, his predecessor.

We read from Premium Times that Mr. Kente left office after the pressure from supporters of the new acting governor got to him.

While he was speaker, he clamored for the removal of Danbaba Suntai, substantive governor of Taraba State, who had been ill for two years after an air crash.

It is believed that Mr. Kente resigned after it became apparent that lawmakers were set to impeach him.
