Sports The Super Eagles are lagging behind the Super Falcons -President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has praised Nigeria's Super Falcons for their feat in winning the African Women's Championship for a record seventh time.

The Super Falcons last week in Namibia, defeated Cameroon 2-0 to reclaim the title they last won in 2010.

Jonathan who on Wednesday received the team in Abuja, contrasted them with their male counterparts, the Super Eagles, congratulating the Falcons for surmounting challenges to win.

“Today we are quite pleased to receive the cup from you and it is good to do so because you just came in and it is good to keep the spirit on; and you’ve made the country proud. We are indeed happy," President Jonathan said.

“Nigeria is known to be a football country. The male teams have been doing very well, but somehow sometimes because of certain internal crisis we tend to lag behind.

But the female teams have been doing wonderfully well, we didn’t expect that you would win, but still, that you won for this country is remarkable.

“On behalf of the good people of this great country, Nigeria, we thank you for your commitment, because it requires discipline to achieve this height.

The president promised to formally receive the team on November 5, and it is in that meeting that Jonathan is expected to announce his rewards to them.
