Rivers State representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Tony Okocha, has brought attention to a pressing issue during a session with traditional rulers. Okocha disclosed that Rivers State is plagued by over 953 abandoned projects under the NDDC's purview.

He emphasized the urgency of addressing these infrastructural challenges, pointing to President Bola Tinubu's noteworthy 200 per cent increment in the 2024 budgetary allocation for NDDC as a potential solution.

Okocha's revelation positions Rivers State as the second-highest in the country with abandoned projects, prompting concerns about the impact on local communities. The NDDC's Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Boma Iyaye, added context to the situation, highlighting the substantial increase in the commission's 2024 budget to N300 billion, a significant leap from previous allocations.

The revelation underscores the need for focused efforts to address the abandoned projects and uplift the developmental landscape of the Niger Delta region.
