Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has appointed Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, a 38-year-old Engineer, as the new Deputy Governor following the removal of Comrade Philip Shaibu from the position.

Omobayo, hailing from Akoko Edo Local Government Area, boasts extensive experience in the oil and gas sector and holds a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, along with an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

As a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Omobayo brings a wealth of expertise to the role.

He has garnered acclaim for his contributions to Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited as a Senior Maintenance Engineer and has actively engaged in local politics, earning trust and mobilizing communities. Pending confirmation by the assembly, Omobayo will serve alongside Governor Obaseki for the remainder of the term. Shaibu, the former deputy governor, parted ways with the governor after seeking to succeed him, marking a significant shift in the state's political landscape.
