The Federal Government has taken a decisive step to suspend the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates obtained from educational institutions in Benin and Togo Republic.

This action follows an investigative report by Umar Audu, a journalist with the Daily Nigerian Newspaper, titled "UNDERCOVER: How DAILY NIGERIAN reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in six weeks, participated in NYSC scheme."

The Ministry of Education, in a statement by Augustina Obilor-Duru, Assistant Director, Press, announced the suspension pending an investigation involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two countries, and relevant authorities like the Department of State Security Services (DSSS) and the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC).

The report raises concerns about the authenticity of academic qualifications and underscores the global issue of degree mills.

The Ministry assures the public of ongoing efforts to sanitize the education sector and collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the Nigerian education system
